In January 2025, [Rhode Island confirmed one case of measles](https://www.ri.gov/press/view/48669) involving an unvaccinated child with recent international travel history. This was the state's first case since 2013, and the overall risk of a large outbreak is considered low due to high vaccination coverage, with [roughly 97% of kindergartners having completed the MMR series](https://health.ri.gov/infectious-diseases/measles). Rhode Island has not reported another measles case since then (as of early March 2026). Although Massachusetts reported no measles cases in 2025, as of late February 2026, the [Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH)](https://www.mass.gov/news/state-public-health-officials-announce-first-two-confirmed-measles-cases-in-massachusetts-this-year) has confirmed two measles cases in state residents. One case involves a child exposed out of state, and the second is an adult in the Greater Boston area linked to international travel. [Rhode Island Comic Con](https://www.ricomiccon.com) is scheduled to take place in Providence from November 6 to November 8, 2026.
