Will a genetically engineered living biosensor be successfuly deployed in the field for ≥3 months before 2032?
Prediction market on metaculus. [Biosensors](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biosensor) are devices that use a biological component, such as an enzyme or antibody, to recognize and measure a specific target substance. They are used in wide range of areas including environmental monitoring, agricultural, medicine, and biosafety. Living biosensors are microbes which have been genetically engineered to emulate the function of traditional biosensors, such that they emit a detectable signal in response to specified environmental target. Although living biosensors were first developed in the 1970s and advanced significantly with genetic engineering in the 1990s, as of 2026 they remain in lab development.
