Prediction market on metaculus. India has experienced increasingly severe heat waves during recent decades, particularly across Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and the Delhi region. Climate models project further warming throughout South Asia during the 21st century, increasing the likelihood of extreme temperature events. Historically, the highest reliably reported temperatures in India have approached 51–52°C (124–126°F). A sustained period reaching 55.0°C (131.0°F) would represent one of the most extreme air-temperature events ever recorded on Earth and would likely require an unusual combination of long-term climatic warming, drought conditions, atmospheric blocking patterns, intense solar heating and exceptionally dry air.
