Quant Portfolio Construction

Heavy-math version of Investment Management 101. Same tools, but you're building optimizers, sizing factor bets, and stress-testing the Markowitz framework against real-world frictions (estimation error, regime change, transaction costs).

Honest comparison

How does this compare to the alternatives?

We're not Bloomberg. They have things we don't — real-time depth, fixed-income analytics that go four levels deeper, an institution-grade execution stack. We win on cost, country flexibility, mobile, and open data. Pick the right tool for the job.

Frequently asked

Questions, answered.

Yes. Every Lab works without an account. We make money on premium signal and execution products elsewhere on Blockcircle — Alpha Hunter Suite, Autopilot, Asset Outperformer. The Labs stay free because they double as outreach for the broader platform.
Equity prices come from yfinance with a typical 15-minute delay (free tier). Crypto comes from CoinGecko over our live WebSocket. Risk-free rates come from FRED for the US, and from each country's central bank for the other 17 markets. Each Lab's "How It Works" modal documents the exact source for that tool. For institutional-grade latency, you want a paid market-data feed — these tools are educational and research-grade.
Yes. Each Lab's "How It Works" modal includes a citation format you can paste straight into a paper or thesis. We track which formula version we implemented (e.g. CAPM with the Fama-French risk-free choice, the textbook two-stage DDM, etc.) so the citation is reproducible. If you need a more formal data statement for your committee, email basel@blockcircle.com.
Not unless you sign in. The Labs use URL-based state — every input you change updates the page's query string, so you can copy the URL and share or bookmark a specific calculation without an account. If you do sign in, your last 50 calculations show up under Account → Lab history.
Bank Indonesia's 7-day reverse-repo rate (BI 7DRR) doesn't have a free public API the way the Fed's FRED service does. We update the value quarterly when BI publishes a change. Each country page shows a small "Last refreshed YYYY-MM-DD"indicator so you can tell at a glance whether the rate is fresh. For everything else (yfinance equity prices, CoinGecko crypto, US FRED rates) the data is live to within minutes.
Bloomberg has things we don't — real-time Level 2 depth, fixed-income analytics that go four levels deeper, FX dealer-curve builders, an industrial execution stack. We're free, work on mobile, support 17 country presets out of the box, and use open data sources. See the full comparison table above. Pick the right tool for the job — many Bloomberg users use these Labs for the country presets and shareable URLs.
Yes. Every Lab is fully responsive — the layouts collapse to a single column under 768px wide, charts re-size to the viewport, and inputs use mobile-friendly numeric keypads. The country selector pins to the top of the hero so you can switch markets without scrolling.
For now, share the URL — every Lab works as a standalone page and the URL captures the state. We're working on an ?embed=1 mode that hides the global header for clean iframe embeds. Email basel@blockcircle.com if you want early access.
